Department of Computer and Information Sciences is a mong the pioneer department of the Garissa University etablished on 2nd September 2014 to provide training skills in all kinds of information spaces: namely Library Science, Information Technology, Records and Archives Management, Media Studies, Software and Hardware Engineering. Undergraduate programmes are designed in a way to  equip students in  all round knowledge and   skills   in   exploring cybersecurity, web design and technology, electronic and print media, data mining and data analytics programming, digital libraries and archiving, computer applications , information literacy and management programs, journalism and broadcasting of news. Programmes on offer include: 

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science 
  • Bachelor of Science in Information Sciences 
  • Bachelor of Science in Informatics 
  • Diploma in Information Technology 
  • Certificate in Information Technology

To Educate Information Professionals   and Consumers to Live, Work, and Flourish in a Dynamic Information Society through Excellence in Teaching, Research, and Innovation.

 DEPARTMENT OBJECTIVES 

The quality objectives of the Department of information Sciences are to: 

  1. To increase innovation in teaching, research, and service; foster transparency; and remain accountable to key stakeholders.
  2. To enhance the pre eminence of the department's reputation and visibility, and to attract and retain diverse high ranking teaching staff. 
  3. To advance the department   diversity and multicultural and global perspectives. 
  4. To further community engagement, social responsibility, information literacy, and equity of access to information. 
  5. To offer an innovative and relevant curriculum for the undergraduate programs.
  6. To advance the use and Innovation of Information and Communication Technologies.

Duration of the programmes

The Bachelor of Science programmes run for Four (4) academic years (8 semesters). Diploma programmes run for Two (2) years (4 semesters) and Certificate programmes run for six (6) months.

The School programmes consist of course work, laboratories, projects, field attachments and industrial attachment

Facilities

The department has well established two computer laboratories that suport learning and teaching a cross the entire university.all the computers are hooked to the internet with high running speed.in addition the ICTstaff and the university library provide support services to ensure that students and staff acquire basic skills in computer applications.
